Thoughts

He was always the voice you heard ringing throughout the house, whether he was watching a film or doing the housework. The home sounds empty without him.

If i could use just one word to sum Darren up it would be love. But i cant just use one. He was love, he was loyal faithful and steadfast. You always knew where you stood with him. He was predictable. You knew what day he would be down town. You would know what shops he would go into. Hmv first then cex then a cafe for tea and biscuits the tea would be too wet without one. We shared the same style of tea. Weak no sugar and the biscuit choice has to be shortbread but we could not agree on the question to dunk or not to dunk. He says my choice of dunking ruins a good biscuit. When his dad passed away he spent every afternoon with his mum from 1pm til 4pm they would play cards watch countdown and escape to the country then he would come home. When she passed away he visited Hans every friday afternoon and they would watch a film together. You really could almost set your watch by him. We met on a blind date 26 years ago and 24 April 2024 marked our 25th wedding anniversary. We both never thought we would ever fall in love let alone get married both thinking we were destined to be signsl. Yet when we finally met we realised that we had met before. At a singles group bbq at his house where i thought he was the werido with the bedroom dedicated to all things film and sci fi. Little did i know how much collections formed such a big part of his life and our house. He had a conversation with me that night and apparently prayed to God that he could meet that girl from 'Brighton ' again not realising that i actually lived in Portsmouth. We both share a deep faith in God and married each other less than a year after meeting, starting our family just a few months later. Darren was told he would never get married or have children his family were told on more than one occasion that he would not live into adulthood due to a tumour on his kidney, leukaemia and meningitis that he battled for 2 years of his life. His dad living at the hospital with him through it all. Then later in life having thyroid cancer. I just cannot imagine the trauma that his mum dad and brothers lived through. My first thoughts when i was introduced to his family (apart from Hans having a fart machine at the dinner table) was how close they all were how much fun they had together. How connected to each other they were. They loved playing games and time around his mum and dads house constisted of dinner then games of cards and dominos. We carried that love of games into our own family and often we would laugh with Darren because he would not have a clue what was going on and we have laughed with our friends on games nights for exactly the same reasons. Darren just loves being with friends and family not always joining in but just being there listening to the hubbub of conversation amd laughter. Now its time to say see you later alligator. Your little egg (or eggos linos)aka me, Zizz boy aka Daniel and cute boy aka Adam not forgetting Alex, Blake and little Lyds aka cute girl all love you so much and are so proud of you. Our lives will never be the same especially as i will have to make my own tea! but as i told you. We will be OK. We are so thankful for the love and support we receive from friends and family and i know that Darren has that assurance that we will be looked after. I pray that as we celebrate Darren's life we will all remember how precious our loved ones are and that we will hug them that little bit tighter and hold them that little bit closer and treasure them in our hearts all the days of our lives.
